JRL calls for shutdown in tomorrow against civilian killings

SRINAGAR: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a shutdown on Wednesday to protest against the killing of three civilians in firing by government forces.

A spokesman appealed for a complete shutdown in Kashmir tomorrow against the killings of Misra Bano, Asif Iqbal and Beauty Jan.

Bano was killed during an encounter between militants and government forces in Younso village of Handwara on December 11. Police had said that the woman was killed in “cross-fire” after she tried to escape from the house where three militants were trapped.

Iqbal, a cab driver was killed in alleged army firing in Thandipora village of Kupwara on Saturday night. However, an army spokesman claimed that the driver was killed in “cross-fire” between militants and army.

Beauty Jan (24) was killed after being hit by a bullet fired by government forces to disperse protesters near the site of gunfight in Shopian today.
