Militants attack army patrol in Shopian

SRINAGAR: Suspected militants on Thursday night attacked an army patrolling party in Ahgam area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

As per official source, militants opened fire on army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles deployed in Ahgam around 8:30 pm.

 The forces retaliated, resulting into a brief exchange of fire. However, no loss of life or injury was reported from either side.Following the attack, forces personnel comprising Jammu and Kashmir police, army’s Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF rushed to the spot and conducted searches to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile police in a statement said that as reported by army in Shopian, a MVCP of 44RR was fired upon by militants travelling in a swift car, which was signaled to stop.

Police said that the militants fired upon the naka party, which was retaliated by the men on duty with extreme caution.”Militants lost control of the vehicle and the car got stuck. Consequently, the Militants abandoned the car and managed to flee. The police has reached the spot, Police said.
