Our youth is fighting for Azadi: Farooq Abdullah

SRINAGAR : National Conference president Farooq Abdullah while calling for dialogue between India-Pakistan says the policy of “bullet for bullet” will only worsen the situation in the state.

Abdullah in his speech said that the youth of Kashmir has sacrificed for the freedom, adding that they want their right. Abdullah said, “Our youth is fighting for Azadi, facing bullets not to become MLA’s or ministers.

He was speaking at a function in memory of Late Advocate Sheikh Nazir Ahmed, former general secretary of National Conference. Farooq said they (youth) want freedom.  Abdullah said that nobody wants to die but Kashmir people face death as they are living under oppression.

Abdullah further said that, “We don’t want to kill each other. We only want peace to prevail. India and Pakistan fighting for Kashmir should go for dialogue to resolve Kashmir issues for the arrival of peace.

Abdullah reiterates the 1948 promises made to Kashmiries by the countries leadership, says that all promises were broken.  He said.’ New generation are committed to the Kashmir freedom”.

He told reporters on the sidelines, “If Indo-Pak want to improve the situation in Kashmir, then the only way is to start a dialogue. The talk of bullet for bullet will only make the things worse”.

He said that there is no other option. He said poor people in the state are worst affected due to violence. Abdullah calls for an end to death and destruction.

He said that people’s bread is also affected due to the turbulence. “The tourism season is about to start and if this death and destruction continues, who will come here? Who is going to suffer because of that? It is the poor people”.

He said that, “We have to take militant sentiments into account when people rushing towards encounter sites to save holed up militants. What is the reason for their taking up arms? A high-level judicial commission should be constituted to look into what is compelling the youth to take up arms,” he said.

When asked, Abdullah terms warning of Army Chief General Bipin Rawat unfortunate. He reiterates, “That is not right. If you have to address a problem, the solution does not lie in the gun but talks”.
