Woman among seven civilians injured in Srinagar grenade attack

All stable, say police; area sealed off, search launched

 

Srinagar (KNO): Barely two hours after the Jammu and Kashmir administration made announcement about restoration of postpaid mobile services and urged various walks of life to resume normal business, at least eight civilians including a woman were wounded in a grenade attack at busy Hari Singh High Street (HSHS) market in commercial Hub Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

 The grenade attack took place an hour after the government stated that they had credible inputs about the major militant attack in Kashmir and appealed people to resume normal activities.

An official told the wire service –Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that grenade attack HSHS has left eight civilians including a woman injured. “All the injured civilians were shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment,” he said.

He added the area has been sealed and searches are being conducted to nab the attackers.

Soon after the attack, a heavy deployment of police and paramilitary troopers were witnessed in the area where street vendors had set up their business units.

It was the third grenade attack in the valley post removal of Article 370 on August 5. The first grenade attack took place on the Central Reserve Paramilitary Force (CRPF) in Downtown Srinagar.  No causality took place in the incident. Second attack took place at Anantnag district near District Commissioner Office on October 5, resulting in the injuries of 14 civilian.

Eye-witnesses told the wire service –Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that, people were buying items, clothes and other essentials from roadside vendors who have set up stalls at Hari Singh High Street, when the blast took place.

Another eye witness said, “I had come to HSHS to buy clothes and heard a loud bang. The people were running to the safer places while a few were in the pool of blood.”

Since August 05, the business activities across Kashmir have come to grinding halt as the people have been observing spontaneous shutdown in the Valley to protest against the abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370) and bifurcated the erstwhile state into two Union Territories.
