Srinagar : Dozens of people, including women and children came out from homes and were protesting against shortage of water. According to reports, people of Asham area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district came out on the Sumbal-Sopore road halting traffic for several hours.
Eye witnesses told that the residents of Asham village of Bandipora on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration and kept Sumbal Sopore road blocked for hours over water shortage against callous approach of PHE Department Bandipora.
The villagers said authorities pay no heed to their grievances and have to fetch water from other sources like wells and rivers to fill water for their daily household chores.
They said the shortage of water has caused great inconvenience to them. “Our kids complain of different ailments and we are forced to drink the impure water every day. Our health has deteriorated, whom we will complain to,” Ghulam Mohammad, a local resident told KDC.
He said that the concerned department and district administration must end “our genuine issue now and provide us with drinking water.”
Repeated attempts to reach officials of Jal Shakti department Sumbal proved futile as they were unavailable for comments. Meanwhile, the residents appealed Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais to intervene and redress their grievance on priority. (KDC)
