Water scarcity irks Khiram residents, residents face official apathy

SRINAGAR: Residents of Khiram Sirhama, area of Bijbehara belt in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district are facing acute shortage of water since over a week and their miseries multiply when the authorities concerned pay no heed to resolve the issue. Inhabitants fetch water from distant areas.

They have complained time and again with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department Bijbehara, that they were not receiving water supply, which is causing lot of hardship to them. ‘Regional water supply scheme ‘ meant for these villages has evidently failed to supply water.

Inhabitants of Khiram village said they are being supplied drinking water from Lidder canal through Regional Water Scheme by Public Health Engineering Department, but the water supply has been shut from last couple of days, and we lodged several complaints with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) but all in vain.

While talking News agency Press Trust of Kashmir, residents said, “Despite tall claims, the authorities have failed to ensure water supply. “The employees of the concerned department have failed to maintain and repair the main gravity line. They have left it all on God’s mercy,” residents said this Reporter,

“Water is a necessary for supporting life and authorities concerned must ensure its uninterrupted supply to inhabitants”, Residents urging officials to take immediate measures to resolve the issue. (PTK)
