SRINAGAR : The Casual Labours of Kashmir Tourism Department’s today held a protest demonstration, demanding the release of their long-pending wages.
Scores of casual labours assembled here in Press Enclave, chanting slogans in favour of their demands.
The protesters said that “our wages are pending from July 2014 till date, despite our continued service in the department”.
One of the protester said, “Tourism Department has uploaded 342 casual labours on NIC site hosted by the Finance Department. Out of 342 casual labours listed, only 14 casual labours are being paid their monthly salary regularly.
“We brought this to the notice of all concerned officers of the department, but nothing has been done at ground level,” he said.
“I don’t understand if they can spend so much money on festivals then why can’t they pay us. They get their work done for free and we suffer, he added.
Another casual labours said “The education of our children has been suffering the most due to our being unable to pay their school fees,” he said.
“From the last more than four years, we are attending our duties regularly but are still without wages. The Tourism Department has never paid any attention towards us.”
The protesters have threatened the government that they will hit the roads along with their family members if their wages are not released within a week. (PTK)
