Srinagar 23 May (KDC): Scores of vehicle owners, heading to Regional Transport Office (RTO) Srinagar to get their vehicles’ fitness check, alleged on Monday that the absence of the ARTO has been delaying the mandatory process.

“We have been waiting for weeks now to get the fitness of our vehicles checked besides other allied things but no one is serious about this issue,” said the vehicle owners to news agency Kashmir Dot Com.

“Without having the fitness test of our vehicle, we run at the risk of being fined a hefty amount and the seizing of our vehicles,” they said, adding that their requests to the concerned officials at the RTO Srinagar seems to be fallen on deaf ears as they have been completely ignored for quite some time.

“I came here (RTO Srinagar) on 28th of last month to get a fitness check of my vehicle but unfortunately since then nothing has been done. If my vehicle gets fined or seized, it would God-forbid get my whole family starved as I am the only breadwinner for them,” said a driver.

Regarding the reason behind not conducting the fitness checking, the vehicle owners said that they (concerned officials) have cited the ARTO’s transfer, hampering the whole process.

They have requested the higher authorities to look into the matter on priority. (KDC)
