SRINAGAR: On the protest call of separatists clashes erupted in several parts of Kashmir on Friday.
Reports said that clashes between youth and forces took place in Prichoo and Chaatpora areas of Pulwama town. Minor clashes were reported in Pulwama town after Friday prayers.
In Sopore clashes erupted between forces and youth outside Jamia Masjid of old town Sopore.
Reports said that scores of youths were part of the post Friday prayer protests. Police resorted to shelling to quell the protests.
Meanwhile in Srinagar, as Friday prayers ended, scores of youth in Maisuma area assembled at Maisuma Chowk after prayers and started raising pro-freedom slogans. They started marching however were stopped by forces triggering clashes. Forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
Clashes were also reported from Palhallan area of Pattan after Friday prayers. Reports said that protesters tried to march towards the highway but were stopped by heavily deployed forces. The protesters pelted stones on them triggering intense clashes.
Meanwhile to prevent separatist-called protest, authorities made heavy deployments of forces today on Friday in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir.
The deployments of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were put in sensitive places to prevent any “untoward incidents. However, no restrictions were imposed anywhere in the valley.
The separatist leaders had called for protests after the Friday congregational prayers against the killings of three civilians in Chadoora area of Budgam district on Tuesday.
Pertinently, resistance leaders, Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq are continuously under house arrest in Srinagar while Muhammad Yasin Malik has been lodged in the central jail.
