Srinagar: Defeated candidates who had contested recently concluded Parliament elections have been stripped off the security. During election process government has provided dozens of security personnel to these candidates for their protection but now that security has been withdrawn.
“During election period government provided 15 security personnel from Indo-Tibetan Border Forces and 3 vehicles to me. Now the elections are over, all these security personnel except one have been withdrawn. In protest, I asked this sole security man to leave me alone,” Shiv Sena candidate Abdul Khaliq told news agency CNS.
Khaliq said that he was kept at police station Chadoora for a night when he in protest proceeded towards his home without security man. “I have been facing threats and feeling insecure. Suspected militants barged into my house thrice so for in my absence that too in broad day light,” he said.
Khaliq contested Parliament elections from Srinagar seat. He was a Shiv Sena candidate.
Khaliq alleged that government of India first used the independent and lesser known candidates and then threw them out. “GoI adopted ‘Use and Throw’ policy which is really disheartening,” he said.
The party provincial president Abdul Khaliq said that he was scheduled to create a community langar for Amarnath pilgrims at Baltal, but he now unable to do so because of lack of security,” he said. (CNS)
