SRINAGAR: Power Development Department has resorted to unscheduled power from autumn leaving consumers high and dry. Previously, power outages would start from harsh winter months.
In most parts of the Kashmir valley, power woes are causing immense inconvenience to the general public.
Consumers from many areas of Kashmir valley have complained they face unscheduled power outage thrice a day.
According to the residents from Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley, they are facing prolonged power curtailments without any proper schedule.
Residents from several areas of North Kashmir, revealed that electricity disappears for the whole day and most of the times it vanishes completely in the evening.
The residents said their residential localities in northern and southern parts of Kashmir have plunged into darkness owing to the erratic power supply.
The residents revealed they were facing acute power shortage and the unscheduled power supply had become a cause of great concern in their areas.
Manzoor Ahmad Magrey, local from Ganderbal said that the locality has decided to not pay fee to PDD if they failed to supply power supply as per schedule. “We urge authorities to come up with winter power schedule so that consumers know when will remain off”.
“Even in the evenings, the electricity plays truant here. We have approached government several times to provide us normal supply, but rather than improving supply, it has deteriorated,” they said. The students said that they couldn’t prepare for exams because of power cuts. “We can’t study properly as electricity plays hide and seek,” said Asim Ahmad, a student.
“There is no power schedule. Sometimes electricity comes for 2 to three hours in evening; at times not at all. Winter season has just to come in the valley and so have peoples’ miseries,” he added. (PTK)
