Two civilians injured in Kupwara clashes

SRINAGAR: Two civilians were injured after the government forces opened fire to break up a protest following the killing of two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants in a gunfight in Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.

Reports said that massive protests erupted in Krusan area of Lolab after the killing of two militants – Zahoor Ahmad and Bilal Ahmad Shah of Shatmuqam – in a gunfight with the forces in Khumriyal area.

They said that the forces opened fire to disperse the protesters, resulting in injuries to two of them.

Both the injured were rushed to a local medical facility where from they were referred to Kupwara for specialized treatment.

However, one of the injured was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

PRO defence Col Rajesh Kalia said the “details are being verified” with regard to the incident, GNS reported.

It said Tantray was injured while he was coming home from a local mosque.
