Ganderbal : The commuters, particularly employees and students, in this central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district’s main town, say they are facing a hard time due to frequent traffic jams.

A group of commuters comprising employees and students  said that the authorities have failed to regulate traffic in the main town of Ganderbal, especially from Beehama to Duderhama Chowk. They said the traffic jams are increasing with each passing day.

“In the absence of proper traffic regulation, vehicular movement frequently comes to a standstill at the vital intersection on the Beehama-Duderhama road,” said a local.

They said the wrongly parked private vehicles on the roads are the main reason for chaos and frequent traffic jams. “The authorities are not doing anything but watching as mute spectators,” they alleged.

The locals also said that encroachers have randomly occupied footpaths, leaving no space for the movement of pedestrians. “Those who have encroached on the main roads are also responsible for the traffic jam in the town,” they said.

Expressing strong resentment, the locals said the frequent unending traffic jams have “drastically affected our lives and business”.

The worst affected are the government employees and students who reach late to the offices and respective destinations, said another local—(KNO)
