Sundus Rashid, a student of class 11th currently studying at Presentation Convent in Srinagar started her journey of poetry in 2016. She represents humanity that acknowledges interdependence between the material and spiritual world in her poetry.
Her poetry work is essentially one of communication, either expressing ideas in a literal sense, such as writing about a specific event or place, or metaphorically.
She (poet) went through some dark days and writes poetry to help others suffering knowing that they are not alone and that there is always hope. Her poetry has themes related to mental health, loneliness, depression but always with a positive twist. Her poems don’t rhyme but state important truths that we all need to consider .This poet posts just her own poems but with lovely quotes, or pieces of prose she wrote.
She encourages positive self image and confidence through her words, which make following her a positive addition to one’s news feed. She’s a poet whose poems you’ll want to read aloud. They often rhyme and the words have such a pretty flow to them you can’t help but speak when reading. Some of them tend to end wistfully or slightly sadly and some speak of inner power. Like poets of yesteryear, her love of nature is evident in their words and the way she points out humans are just a part of nature is very smooth.
Her first poem was on motherland, Kashmir under the title” Kashmir In Crisis”as this was the situation she witnessed since her birth. As a girl she feel and how she take things ,actually about a lot of things which were just poisoned in her mind, difficult to talk about but easier to pen down and now she want to publish her book titled as Behind Her Smile.
She wrote the poems that are based on her real life experience or whatever she have witnessed as mentioned above. Her collection of poems are written as words of a particular girl and as it is said a person can hide million of things behind a beautiful smile and most of the people of this generation is going through the same so she named it as Behind Her Smile .
She has the poetic talent of twisting words beautifully. Besides love and heartbreak, she speak of sensuality, writing and the power of words . While most write on the love they feel for others, and they are no exception, she also write on their love of words; perfect poet for the poets. Besides a poet, she is a good photographer too . A poet and a photographer, her posts are varied as are the topics of her poems. She voices and her musings in her verses have no consistent theme and some might even contradict. Most of her posts are pictures she’s taken, sometimes of handwritten poems.
Passing each day is becoming difficult for some of us at times during the current lockdown situation. Cooped up inside our homes, not going out for fresh air or to meet friends and see new places, does affect us after a certain point of time. But there is one thing which has time and again come to our rescue in the past, and can do so again in the current scenario- poetry.
She have chosen a few poems for us which we can go through whenever feeling down, for the rest of the time, of-course you can see Netflix, talk on the phone and catch up on sleep (though guess you’ve been doing enough of that already). Poetry has become a people’s genre and young poets are finding new acceptability, thanks to the social media.
Never give up Sundus , Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine for you InshAllah. Let we all be supportive to her in this new journey of her life and motivate her to reach the heights soon.
