Kupwara, Aug 7 : A series of mysterious stone-pelting incidents has left residents of various villages in the Karnah area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district living in fear. The miscreants have been targeting the roofs of houses, causing panic among the villagers, especially after darkness falls.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Karnah while talking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust acknowledged the situation, stating that the involvement of children in these acts cannot be ruled out. “They (children) may be doing it out of fun, but the consequences can be severe,” he said.
The SDM said that he called an emergency meeting with village headmen, civil society members, and police officials to address the issue. “We will take stern action against the miscreants and ensure that the villagers feel safe and secure,” he assured.
The stone-pelting incidents have caused significant distress among the residents, who are now living in constant fear of their homes being targeted. SDM urged the village headmen and respected citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
The motives behind the stone-pelting incidents are still unclear, but the administration is determined to put an end to the mischief and restore peace in the affected areas. [KNT]
