In the year 2016 Kashmir saw unprecedented agitation after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. The protests erupted against Indian rule, and seeking resolution of Kashmir dispute resulted in death of 96 civilians, 14000 injured, hundreds blinded by pellets. The saga of tragedy has been enormous in Kashmir.
We witnessed that suppression of 2008 mass uprising gave rise to 2010 mass uprising with more magnitude in killings and protests and 2010 resulted in the volcanic situation of 2016. 2016 can give birth to another disastrous mass uprising with a huge magnitude which will be beyond the imagination and undoubtedly beyond the control of New Delhi and Islamabad, if Kashmir issue is not addressed at the earliest.
The successive Governors of Jammu and Kashmir ever since the creation of Kashmir problem in general and from past three decades in particular just looked after their personnel gains rather than giving realistic report and feedback to New Delhi and continued to keep Central government in dark about the situation in Kashmir . In other words the Successive Governors of Jammu and Kashmir are responsible for the deteriorated situation in Jammu and Kashmir and their attitude have added insult to injury. Even present Governor has not been able to show any desired dynamics. Irony is that State of Jammu and Kashmir has not seen any Governor with qualities of statesmanship, who knew Kashmir and kashmir problem as well.
On the other hand, pertinently, erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently gave a surprising statement by stating that the unrest in Kashmir isn’t engineered by Pakistan but the result of current Indian government’s ignorance.
“It is a false impression that Pakistan is behind the unrest you see in Kashmir. It is a result of our mistakes,” said Omar, while speaking at a function of organised by his National Conference in Baramulla.
During present uprising, the wrong assessments of the state government plus the autocratic attitude coupled with incompetent Governor who seem to have given no better feedback to central government on Kashmir lava.
Analysts and ground watchers state that the current State Government has behaved as if it is playing last innings and wants just to cash in on coming years to cling to chair and has no worry of future electoral battles.
On the other hand, the current Governor NN Vohra also seems to have shown no seriousness in providing feedback effectively to the central government over the lava, anger among the masses of Kashmir which gave birth to a popular mass uprising, and the situation got so worsened that global countries jumped into the fray including United Nations.
Gulzar Ahmad, a commoner stated: “The year 2016 has given great wounds to Kashmir as peaceful protests have been crushed by force. What has been surprising is not just incompetent State government but also the almost no zest shown by Governor of the State to act as a bridge and give the Central Government proper feedback to get this issue solved.
Undoubtedly, incompetent state Government coupled with inefficient Governor have no way helped Kashmir to come out of crisis.
