Move will help save time of commuters, say officials

Srinagar: The deployment of Quick Reaction Team’s and composite control rooms along Srinagar-Jammu national highway to ensure hassle free movement of traffic on the crucial highway.

 According to wire service— Kashmir News Observer (KNO), as the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district constituted the Quick Reaction Team’s and established the composite control rooms in order to make the highway congestion free by ensuring free movement of vehicles plying on the NH1A stretch.

An official from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) told wire service—KNO, that the move was advocated by the J&K administration just before the days of commencement of bi-annual ‘Darbar Move’ practice by establishing the control rooms at Chanderkote, Seri, Digdole, Ramsoo, and Banihal and the same will function on round the clock basis in order to respond any exigency that may take place due to landslides or by any other cause.

The 270 Kms Srinagar—Jammu national highway is the only lifeline road linking Kashmir with the rest of the nation and the same is closed several times during the year especially during the winters when occurrence of landslides are high.

As the major construction companies have already deployed adequate men and much needed machinery at all major vulnerable places where landslides frequently occur that includes, Nashri, Ramban tunnel, Mehar, Marog, Battery Cheshma, Panthyal, Anokhi fall and Gangroo to ensure smooth conduct of traffic movement at these places.

The QRT’s comprising of Police officials, traffic police, NHAI officials, SDRF, along with the representatives of various construction companies which are engaged in four laning of the highway. An official said that the fresh plan will ease out traffic snarls and ensure smooth flow of vehicles on the crucial highway. “The only aim is to guide vehicles and to ensure there are less congestions on the highway,” he said, requesting anonymity.  (KNO)
