Srinagar : Residents of Sonpah Beerwah on Monday held a protest at press colony Srinagar demanding closure of a brick kiln which was constructed “illegally” during the lockdown of Article 370.

Talking to reporters, the residents alleged that Farooq Ahmad Sheikh of Beerwah constructed a brick kiln at Sonpah Beerwah for which the then District Commissioner Budgam Sehrish Asgar has already cancelled the license.

The protesters alleged that the owner of the brick kiln took the advantage of the abrogation of Article 370 and constructed the kiln namely (SKB) illegally within no time.

They said this brick kiln is causing damage to agricultural land around it and farmers have to bear a lot of losses because of it.

“We met the district and LG administration who assured us that the brick will be closed if found illegal,” they said. “We request the administration to act quickly and demolish the brick kiln so that farmers can sigh a breath of relief.”

However an official from district administration Budgam said that the locals have approached the District Commissioner and action will be taken if the brick is found illegal—(KNO)
