Bandipora: The residents of Sonawari villages on Monday staged protest in Naidkhai against the Jal Shakti Department and blocked the Sumbal-Sopore road to press for their demands.

The villagers took to the streets and blocked the road to demand adequate water supply in the area. The protesting residents told that for past several weeks, the residents have faced tremendous hardships in absence of the water supply.

According to the residents of Shahgund, Hajin, Vijpora, Ajas, Makdamyari, Saderkoot, Banyari, Prang and many other villages, the department has miserably failed to provide them adequate water supply, thus leaving them to the lurch at large.

Protesters including men and women assembled in the village, carrying empty buckets. “Our kids complain of different ailments as we are being forced to consume the contaminated water. Our health has got deteriorated,” the residents told KNO.

Threatening to hit streets again, the residents said the authorities must fulfill their demands at an earliest and should not force them to hit the streets again—(KNO)
