SONAWARI : Pethpora and Line Mohalla Shahgund villages of Sonawari area in north Kashmiri’s Bandipora district are facing immense water scarcity besides the area witness huge power crisis.
The residents alleged that during election campaign some politicians assured us to provide drinking water, but after the culmination of the elections no one turned up to address the issue.
The woman folk of the area said that they have to travel miles to fetch the drinking water. “It takes us almost half an hour to fetch a single bucket of water from adjacent areas for cooking and for other purposes. The taps are running dry from past several months”, they said.
The apathy has triggered anger among the locals. “Despite our repeated requests to the PHE department to restore the water supply, nothing comes at the avail. Our women folk is the worst sufferer”, said an elderly Ghulam Mohammad.
The aggrieved inhabitants appealed to the chief Engineer PHE to look into the matter of restoration of the water supply in the area at the earliest.
On the other hand, the residents are also complained that they are also facing power shortage. “We are requesting to the higher authorities to redress our problems of power shortage,” said a local Riyaz Ahmad Ahmad.
