Srinagar: Despite tall claims and assurances, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has failed to eliminate garbage collection points in the city, leaving residents to suffer from unsanitary conditions and environmental hazards.
Numerous garbage collection points continue to exist throughout Srinagar, becoming breeding grounds for stray dogs and sources of filth, stench, and pollution. The persistence of these points has led to widespread discontent among citizens, who demand action from the SMC.
“The SMC’s inaction has turned our city into a garbage dump,” a resident from Jawahar Nagar told the news agency Kashmir News Trust. “We can’t bear the stench and the sight of stray dogs rummaging through trash.”
Experts warn that these garbage collection points pose serious health risks, including the spread of diseases and contamination of water sources.
Earlier SMC had claimed that there would be no garbage points in Srinagar but that turned out only a statement. [KNT]
