Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday celebrated Republic day here at Municipal Central Office Karan Nagar.
According to a statement issued, Mayor Srinagar Junaid Azim Mattu who presided over the function unfurled tri-color.
Mattu while extending heartiest congratulations to every citizen on the eve of Republic day said that last year was quite a challenging and difficult phase of everybody’s life as people all over the country were jostling with COVID-19 pandemic.
Our municipal workers did a commendable job by strictly following and implementing the SOPs issued by Government to tackle COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
Besides fighting with pandemic by installing 23 sanitization/decontamination tunnels with the use of appropriate disinfectant in hospitals, courts and other vital locations, SMC continuously conducted sanitization at Airport, Health Institutions, Banks, Mandis, Court Complexes, Hotels and all public places and from the areas where positive cases were reported with a special contingent at the spots.
Latest machinery chemicals and other relevant material were purchased and procured to combat COVID 19, besides 153 mts of waste was collected from various designated Quarantine centres wef 1-05-2020, Mayor said.
He said “apart from that our sanitary workers also performed their legitimate duties well by keeping city neat and clean and as a city Mayor, I appreciate the entire Municipal employees who are all always in a state of readiness to come on forefront be it Devastating 2014 floods or COVID-19 pandemic when entire world was under lockdown but our sanitary workers, health workers were out on roads to ease out the difficulties of the citizens.”
Besides Provincial President Apni Party Mohammad Ashraf Mir, National youth President LJP Sanjay Saraaf, District President Srinagar BJP Ashok Bhat, Corporators, senior officers of Corporation and SMC officials were present on the occasion.
Mattu on the occasion while reflecting various achievements, developmental works, imperative projects also stressed that SMC has declared all 74 wards as ODF (Open Defecation Free) as per the survey conducted and certified by Quality Council of India.
While appreciating the improvement in sanitation, the Mayor said that it is quite heartening to see that Srinagar city has been ranked 36th cleanest city across India under Swachh Survekshan survey 2020 where 4242 cities participated.
Mayor while throwing light on certain projects and centrally sponsored schemes said that 17 projects under AMRUT have been completed out of 30 and 560 seats against the target of 750 seats under Swachh Bharat Mission CT/ PT component has been completed.
On the occasion, the Mayor felicitated various officials for their outstanding performances in COVID-19 pandemic and other exemplary official work. Various musical and cultural programs were organized on the occasion.
