Weatherman says, light Rain, Snow activities to continue in J&K parts until Wednesday
Srinagar: A slight improvement in night temperatures was recorded across Kashmir as several areas witnessed light to moderate rain and snowfall, bringing some relief from the intense cold wave.
The spell of rain and snow was reported in both upper and North Kashmir plains recieve rains from yeaterday evening.
Details available that, the mercury in Srinagar settled at 1.0°C, while other areas such as Qazigund and Pahalgam recorded -1.6°C and -2.2°C. Gulmarg, known for its skiing slopes, reported -3.2°C, and Sonamarg recorded -4.8°C. In other parts of the Valley, temperatures hovered just below or slightly above freezing, with Budgam at 0.5°C and Pulwama at -1.1°C.
Meanwhile, areas like Larnoo in south Kashmir witnessed a severe cold with temperatures dropping to -6.0°C.
In Jammu, the winter capital of the Union Territory, the night temperature remained relatively warmer at 9.0°C. Other districts such as Banihal, Batote, and Katra recorded 1.0°C, 5.2°C, and 10.8°C, it stated.
Ladakh remained the coldest region, with Leh registering -9.0°C and Drass and Kargil recording identical temperatures of -9.8°C.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif told that, due another weak Western Disturbance, light activities of rain/snow may continue until Wednesday over a few parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Faizan said, No strong Western Disturbance is expected to impact Jammu and Kashmir until at least January 28.
Cold Wave is set to make a comeback from January 24 onwards, he added. (JKNS)
