
SRINAGAR: A student of second standard, Shahid Zahoor whose father is a folk singer has become a musical sensation in Kashmir.
A six-year-old child, Shahid hails from Naide Gaam village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Shahid’s talent at this young age came to notice of public after a brief video of his performance went viral. People on social media appreciated his talent at this young age besides called him ‘Little Star of Kashmir’.
Shahid’s father, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, who is a folk singer, said that his son developed interest in music while watching him (father). “Shahid would try his hands and fingers on earthen pots or whatever he could find in home”, he said.

Seeing his interest in playing instruments and singing, his father included him in his singing team. His father said that from past one year, he has been playing ‘Dab’r’ (Musical Instrument) in his father team while performing at events.
His father says that he has no apprehensions that playing instruments may affect Shahid’s studies adding that “He is equally good at studies as well.”
Shahid is happy with the music. He said that he used to listen and see his father and others singing, playing different musical instruments. “Listening to music around me made me to feel awesome and i wanted to do the same,” he said.

He says that initially, he tried to play any earthen pot he finds at home. Finally, his father noticed his interest and talent who provided me Dab’r to try my hands. “I am loving it. I am enjoying it.”
The other members of the team express happiness with the Shahid, saying that he is very talent and a shining star. They said that besides magical fingers, he has melodious voice. “If guided and trained properly, he may emerge as a superb artist and a singer as well in future”, they added.
