The Sugar available in the market is sold rupees 60 per kilogram, which has rendered poor class of the valley to suffer. Reports said that ration depots across valley have no sugar stock available.
When contacted Tasaduq Jeelani Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Kashmir told PTK that the sugar is being supplied through a contractor adding that the contractor has left the contract despite security deposit of 2.5 crore, which has created the problem in sugar supply in the valley.
“We have retendered the contract and waiting for the approval from government. We are expecting once a new contractor takes over, there would be no dearth of sugar”, he said.
