Srinagar: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) led by Jagmohan Singh Raina Tuesday staged a peaceful protest in support of Article 35A. Scores of Sikhs assembled here in Pratap Park Srinagar. Traders’ community was also part of the protest. Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik also participated in the protest.
The Sikhs on this occasion appealed people to protect Article 35A which gives powers to state legislature to define permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir and their privileges. The article has been challenged in the Supreme Court. The court will hear the petition during the week beginning August 27.

The participants said some handful vested interests are behind the petition filed with the Supreme Court on article 35 A and every prudent Indian would not want that Government of India would take any decision on the behest of these fringe elements. “Did India forget the promise made by Nehru to people of Kashmir. If Government of India is hell bent to abrogate this Article which is our lifeline then India should leave Kashmir,” said a Sikh protester
