Srinagar: Normal life has come to a grinding halt across the Valley in response to the shutdown called by the joint resistance leadership (JRL) against turning the Valley, especially south Kashmir into a ‘battlefield’.

Witnesses told Kashmir Reader that all shops, business establishments, schools and colleges, petrol pumps remained closed here in response to the shutdown called by JRL against the killings in the Valley, especially in south Kashmir, which the resistance leadership claims has been turned into a ‘battlefield’ by the government forces.

The shutdown also affected the public transport even as light motor vehicles were only seen plying on the otherwise busy roads of this summer capital. Many government offices also witnessed thin attendance of employees in view of the strike, witnesses said.

Stringent security measures have been put in place in many volatile towns of the Valley to thwart any attempts of people to hold –freedom demonstrations, they added.
