Srinagar: In a blatant disregard for public convenience and safety, shopkeepers in Mehjoor Nagar have completely occupied the main road, causing immense hardship for pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The concerned Ward office has been criticized for its inaction, allowing the encroachment to continue unabated.
The road, that is a vital artery for the area, has been reduced to a narrow passage, with shopkeepers displaying their goods and merchandise on the thoroughfare. This has resulted in frequent traffic jams, accidents, and difficulties for emergency services.
Furthermore, the Mehjoor Nagar bund is being occupied by trucks, adding to the congestion and chaos. Locals have expressed frustration and disappointment at the Ward office’s failure to address the issue.
“It’s a disaster waiting to happen,” said a concerned resident. “The authorities need to take immediate action to clear the encroachment and restore the road to its original state.”
“The Ward office is sleeping on the job. We need action, not excuses. Commissioner SMC does not know about what is happening on the ground,” residents told that encroachment is a menace that needs to be tackled firmly.
They urged authorities to take swift action to clear the encroachment, restore the road, and ensure public safety and convenience.
Despite repeated efforts, the concerned Ward Officer Irfan Joo didn’t pick up the phone. [KNT]
