Shopian : Chitragam –Shopian road collapsed at chitragam village, cuts off the Shopian district with the rest of the Jammu and Kashmir, the said road is the main connectivity which connects the Shopian district with the rest of the valley.
Locals blamed the installation of optical fiber cable (OFC) in the area for road collapsing, resulting in the formation of the pits and water lodging and alleged that being a hilly area the retaining walls should have been made to avoid the sliding and the collapsing of the road.
Talking to Kashmir News Bureau Aijaz Ahmad a local resident said, “The work for construction of the retention was started a year back but the contractor has constructed a mere 100 – 200 meter of the wall and is not working in satisfactory speed.”
In the evening we were at home, suddenly a big bang was heard and when we came out of the home we found that road of about 10 – 15 feet has disappeared ” another local residing in the vicinity of the spot .
Kashmir news bureau on contacting the SDM Zainapora Mohammad Sayeed he said ,“ we have sent a team at site to know the reason of the collapsing of the road and the road will be repaired within no time.” (KNB)
