Srinagar: JKPM leader Shehla Rashid today urged people of Jammu & Kashmir, including members of her party, Jammu & Kashmir People’s Movement, to contribute to the Odisha Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, in view of the destruction caused by Cyclone Fani, which has forced 1.2 million people to move to shelter camps.
While sharing a picture of her own “humble contribution” on her social media profiles, she urged people to contribute to the cause, especially in view of the month of Ramzan which signifies empathy and compassion.
Recalling the destructive floods of 2014, she said that people of Kashmir have themselves been at the receiving end of natural disasters. “The people of J&K, themselves being at the receiving end of nature’s fury multiple times, left no stone unturned to assist their brothers and sisters in Kerala. I’m sure they’ll live up to their reputation this time around as well,” she said.
Shehla Rashid also said that the people of Odisha are some of the most humble and hard-working people that she has ever had the chance of working with. She said that, “J&K’s most beloved officer, IPS Basant Rath, singer Sniti Misra who has rendered her voice to a lot of Kashmiri songs, and my own colleague in the JNU Students’ Union, Rama Naga who was accused of sedition along with Kanhaiya Kumar and others, are some of my closest friends and ambassadors of Odisha. My prayers are with all the families affected by the cyclone.”
