Srinagar: The President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday appointed Satya pal Malik as the new Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
Malik, who is the current Governor of Bihar will replace N N Vohra, who completed 10 years in office as J&K Governor on June 25, 2018.
82-year-old Vohra is a retired 1959 batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre. Vohra was appointed Governor of Jammu and Kashmir by the UPA led government when Kashmir witnessed massive agitation over the transfer of 99 acres of land to the Amarnath shrine board.
The President also appointed senior BJP leader Lal Ji Tandon as the Governor of Bihar replacing Malik, and Satyadev Narayan Arya will be the new Governor of Haryana, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique today said.
Baby Rani Maurya will be the new Governor of Uttarakhand, it said. Kaptan Singh Solanki, the Governor of Haryana, has been transferred to Tripura.
Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy has been transferred to Meghalaya, it said. Ganga Prasad, the Governor of Meghalaya, has been transferred to Sikkim, it said.
