Sarpanch, 2 cops injured in separate attacks in South Kashmir

Srinagar : A Sarpanch and two policemen were on Tuesday injured in twin attacks in Southern districts of Kashmir.

Two policemen were injured after militants attacked a police party in Wanpora village of Kakapora belt in Pulwama district, an official told a local news gathering agency.

He said that militants attacked police party with grenade followed by firing, resulting in injuries to two policemen. 

The official said the injured policemen were shifted to a nearby hospital where condition of one is said to be critical. 

He further added that the area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, suspected militants shot at and critically injured a Sarpanch at Akhran area of Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district late evening, officials said.

They said that suspected militants fired at Arif Ahmed Shah son of Mushtaq Ahmed near his home. “He sustained bullet wounds in his neck and abdomen. He was shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag where his condition is stated as very critical,” a doctor said.

Medical Superintendent GMC Anantnag, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal told KNO that the injured person has been shifted to SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).

Sources said that Arif was affiliated with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The attacks came at a time when security forces are maintaining a highest level of alert in the wake of first anniversary of Article 370 roll back bifurcation of erstwhile state into two UTs—J&K and Ladakh—(KNO)
