Time to recognise Journalism as viable economic sector: JK Bank Chairman
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Bank chairman Parvez Ahmad on Thursday launched special financial scheme for print and electronic media journalists of the state.
The scheme will enable journalists to buy cameras, laptops, tablets and books. The minimum loan amount for the purpose has been fixed as Rs 50 thousand while as the maximum cap is Rs 3 Lac.
According to the KNS correspondent, speaking on the occasion, JK Bank Chairman Parvez Ahmad said that the time has come when apart from empowering the state government employees; financial assistance is needed to be provided to the other sections of the society as well.
Hailing the courage of the journalists working in the state, Parvez said that the present scheme is a mere beginning and much more is about to follow. “The kind of courage, zeal and enthusiasm shown by the journalist fraternity over a period of time, it is time to recognise this sector as a viable economic sector and make it financially comfortable,” Parvez said.
However, he added, “I would like to request every one present here to please cooperate with the bank to make this product successful.”
The JK Bank chairman maintained that it is high time to understand that state’s premier financial institution should not confine empowerment schemes to the state government employees only. “We have developed the mindset of securing our advances through the guarantees of the state government employees. If we see the other sections of the society, they have not been financially empowered because of not having the regular income from the state government or from the public financial institution,” Parvez Ahmad said.
The chairman stated further that as JK Bank has the vision to develop each and every section of the society, then it is needed to empower all sectors of the state.
