SRINAGAR : Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi while discussing a legal challenge related to the state’s special status said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir fear that their identity is threatened.
She said after the meeting, referring to the state’s special autonomous status in the constitution that the PM assured that article 370 will be respected.
The meeting of Mehbooba with PM Modi was specific about Article 35-A, which bars outsiders from owning property in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier Mehbooba has said that any scraping of Article will have a direct impact on demography of the state.
After meeting the Prime Minister, Mehbooba said the response of PM was very positive. She said, “I told the PM that J&K is going through a difficult phase. People of the state fear their identity is under threat.
The message should go that Jammu and Kashmir is the pride of India, the crown) of India and its special status should remain”.
This special status is being challenged in the Supreme Court in a writ petition. The Supreme Court has also asked the Centre to respond to petition that challenges the validity of Article.
