Ganderbal: The residents of Zipora Kullan village of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are up in arms against the administration for failing to provide them potable drinking water even when the entire world is fighting deadly COVID-19.

The locals told that the water supply tank from where the water is being supplied to the village is non-functional for the last several weeks, forcing them to consume contaminated water.

“The concerned department has failed to make this supply water tank functional and we are being forced to consume polluted water. This poses a grave threat to our health as already the world is battling with deadly COVID-19,” said a local resident.

The locals said that they have been demanding potable water to be supplied from a tube well, however, their pleas seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

The residents urged the authorities to make the water tank properly functional or make an alternative arrangement for supplying drinking water to the area.

They alleged that even though water is occasionally supplied to the village from this water tank, however, it is contaminated as the tank has been kept open and there is no filtration plant for the same.

When contacted, executive engineer, Jal Shakti department Ganderbal Mohammad Aslam Zargar assured that the issue will be addressed soon—(KNO)
