Sopore : Intermittent rains caused water-logging in several areas in Sopore with officials blaming lack of drainage and encroachment of canals for the problem.
Locals told that rains often cause water logging in the town.
Krankshivan colony, Sidiq colony, Moominabad, Model Town, Arampora, Hyder Colony, Sher Colony areas are the worst hit due to the water logging.
“We have to face tremendous hardships to move out. Our entire area is suffering as the authorities have failed to construct a deep drainage across the town,” locals from several areas complained.
They said roads are submerged in water which causes a lot of inconvenience to pedestrians.
The residents have appealed to the district administration as well as to the concerned department to dewater the roads so that the people could heave a sigh of relief.
President Municipal Council Sopore Musarat Kar told KNO that lack of deep drainage projects and blockage and encroachment of canals are reasons for water-logging.
“For the last 2 years, no drainage project has been approved. We are expecting approval of 1-2 projects this year,” she said.
According to Musarat, Municipal council Sopore is lacking men and machinery and the existing workers are not trained to deal with natural disasters.
“We have to seek help from Fire and Emergency and SDRF teams to redress the waterlogging issues,” Musarat said.
