Rahul Gandhi praises those who saved Kashmiri vendor in Lucknow

SRINAGAR : Condemning all acts of violence against the Kashmiris Congress president Rahul Gandhi praised the brave heart who challenged and saved the Kashmiri dry fruit vendor yesterday in Lucknow. The attackers belonged to fringe right-wing outfit Vishwa Hindu Dal.

 

Tweeting a video of the incident, the Congress chief said: “While I’m disgusted by this video of Kashmiri traders being attacked in UP, I salute the braveheart who challenged the attackers. India belongs to its citizens, from every corner of our nation. I strongly condemn all acts of violence against our Kashmiri brothers and sisters.”

 

Lucknow Police SSP Kalanidhi Naithani had announced yesterday that four people involved in this accident had been apprehended. Kashmiris across the country were targeted after the Pulwama attack which led to the death of 40 CRPF men.

 

The incident took place at around 5 pm on Wednesday in Lucknow’s Daliganj area. In the video of the incident which went viral on the social media saffron-clad members of the fringe outfit can be seen abusing and assaulting the traders and can be heard saying “they are Kashmiris”. The men were also demanding identity proof from the traders.

 

Later several locals intervened and asked the men to stop assaulting the innocent Kashmiri. The attack generated widespread outrage on social media and people and politicians from all walks of life condemned the incident.

 

One of the accused who identifies himself as the president of the fringe outfit is currently on run and cops are looking for him. The man has been active on Facebook and even claimed that his men had carried out the attack. (PTK)
