Pulwama : The student from different areas of Pulwama on Monday protested outside Government Degree College for boys in Pulwama demanding admission in the college.
The protesting students said that college administration is giving admission in UG courses to students from far off places but are ignoring the students living in the vicinity of the college.
The students said that the college administration is asking them to submit admission forms and without confirming them about their admission.
“The authorities are telling us that they will be informed via a phone call whether our admission has been confirmed or not. This is unacceptable. The authorities either accept our admission or deny it at the time of admission,” the students said.
“They will probably inform us about the status of admission, when the admission process in other colleges will be closed,” they said. “Isn’t it sheer injustice when a student from a very far off place who has college in his locality will get admission here and not the local student.”
Meanwhile some pictures and videos shows that COVID-19 SOPs aren’t being followed in any manner at GDC boys Pulwama.
Several students demanded that a cell must be established by the college administration who will take action against the students/ teachers who aren’t following Covid SOPs.
“We have already lost one year in lock down but we don’t want lock down again so college administration must take cognizance of the issue,” the students said.
Meanwhile Principal GDC boys Pulwama Farooq Ahmad Andrabi said that they are trying to give admission to maximum possible students.
On asking how college has given admission to students to far off places but deny admission to locals, Andrabi said that they have given admission to students of other areas in only those streams which aren’t available in their local colleges.
He said that almost every student taking admission has chosen education and sociology as their subject, “but it is not possible as our intake capacity for the stream is 240 students.”
“We are still trying to accommodate maximum students,” he said.
On Covid SOPs, Andrabi said that from tomorrow there won’t be any laxity in following prescribed guidelines. (KNO)
