Protest against killing of Hizb militants held, absentia prayers offered in Valley

SRINAGAR: In many party of Valley on Friday people staged protests and offered funeral prayers in absentia for the slain Hizb commander Mannan Bashir Wani and his associate who were killed in a gun-battle by government forces in frontier Kupwara district.

In Srinagar, a protest was held under the banner of joint resistance leadership against the killing of scholar turned militant Mannan Bashir Wani and his associate. The protesters led by Sheikh Abdur Rashid were shouting pro-freedom and anti-poll slogans.

“India claims to be the biggest democracy in world but by arresting JRL leaders, they have proved this electoral exercise is a hoax,” he said.

Reports of Gaibana nimaz-e-jinaza were also received from many places of this capital city. Hundreds of people in Beerwah town of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district also held funeral prayers in absentia for slain scholar turned militant Mannan Wani.

The prayers were held immediately after the congregational Friday prayers culminated in the town. Witnesses said that hundreds of people after prayers at grand mosque assembled in the main town and offered absentia prayers to the slain militants.

In Kupwara, since early morning, hundreds of people started visiting the house of Mannan Wani in Wani Mohalla of Sogam in Lolab to express solidarity with his family, witnesses said. After congregational Friday prayers, people offered prayers in absentia for the slain Hizb commander and his associate at Tikipora.

Prayers were also offered at the grave of Mannan Wani. Later, mourners staged a pro-freedom and anti-India demonstration. (PTK)
