SRINAGAR: In a shocking incident at Emergency Hospital Qazigund, the thread of surgical stitches meant for “hospital supply only” were found being sold at a private chemist shop in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Locals while talking with News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK) that the incident came to fore when a patient visited hospital on Tuesday and his wounds needed to be stitched.
Since the hospital supply has been exhausted, doctors prescribed the patient to procure the ‘Prolin 3.0’, surgical thread meant for stitches, from market.
To the patients shock, the stitches he bought from a private pharmacy, which had “for hospital supply only” stamped on them.
Mohammad Amin, a local from Qazigund told PTK that “the Government supply is meant for poor patients are being sold in market and the poor are denied in the hospitals for many reasons”.
“As the sale of hospital supply in open market may not be possible without involvement of big fishes in the Health Department and Government Hospitals” he said.
Medical Superintendent EHQ, Asima Nazir told News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK) that she has been informed about the incident and has launched an inquiry into the incident, claiming her posting at the medical facility was done two days back. (PTK)
