RAJOURI: Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, addressed a press conference on Friday to announce significant measures in response to the recent alarming health situation in the district.
All leaves of doctors and paramedic staff have been canceled, alongside a suspension of winter vacations, as the administration steps up its efforts to address the medical crisis.
The decision comes in the wake of 17 unexplained deaths reported over the past one and a half months, all hailing from three families in the region. Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Bhatia highlighted the gravity of the situation, terming it a “medical alert” requiring immediate and robust action. “This is an extraordinary situation that demands extraordinary measures. Our focus is on ensuring that every resource at our disposal is directed towards safeguarding public health,” he said.
To bolster the existing medical infrastructure and workforce, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has deputed ten additional medical students to GMC Rajouri. Dr. Bhatia expressed gratitude for the support and assured the public that the college is working tirelessly to investigate the mysterious deaths while simultaneously ramping up medical preparedness.
The principal urged the residents of Rajouri to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to any advisories issued in the coming days. “We are leaving no stone unturned to identify the cause behind these unfortunate incidents. Public cooperation and vigilance are essential during this time,” he emphasized.
The district administration and medical authorities are reportedly exploring all possible angles behind the deaths, including potential outbreaks, toxicological causes, or environmental factors. Meanwhile, health officials have been directed to remain on high alert, and medical services in the area have been scaled up to ensure timely intervention in any emerging cases.
As the investigation continues, GMC Rajouri has become the epicenter of medical and administrative activity, with teams working round the clock to restore a sense of normalcy in the region.
