Budgam: The skyrocketing prices of essential commodities in Chadoora market in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district has left the consumers aghast as according to them, the authorities are acting as mute spectators in this regard.

The consumers said that shopkeepers are looting them by selling the essential commodities on exorbitant rates.

They said the authorities concerned have failed to keep eye on the market prices and illegal profiteering.

A consumer from Chadoora said that “the prices of vegetable oil, fruits, mutton, chicken and other essential commodities are skyrocketing as the shopkeepers charge as per their will.”

He alleged that the traders are openly violating the rates fixed by the concerned department and are selling commodities on exorbitant rates.

“If the administration has fixed the rate Rs 480/kg for mutton, why butchers are still selling mutton as per their will,” another consumer questioned.

“I used to get vegetable oil at the rate of Rs 500, but today the shoppers are selling it at the rate of Rs 800. This is sheer injustice with the consumers. The administration should act against such shopkeepers,” Abdul Salam, a consumer from Chadoora said.

Meanwhile, TSO Chadoora told KNO that strict action will be taken against those shopkeepers found violating the norms. He, however, said that they are regularly conducting the market checking in this regard(KNO)
