Police intensify action against illegal mining in Ganderbal*l ‘Scores arrested, several vehicles seized’

Ganderbal : Police in this central Kashmir’s Ganderbal have intensified action against those involved in the illegal extraction of minor minerals like sand, bajri, boulders and also the unauthorized transportation within the district.

Under the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, special police teams were constituted, which were led by SHOs and DOs of police stations and police posts of Ganderbal under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Muzaffar and & DySP Hqrs Ganderbal Gh Hassan, to check the menace of illegal mining in the district,

He said during the course of action, seven persons were arrested and seven tippers seized on the spot in the last two weeks. These vehicles were loaded with illegally extracted bajri, sand and boulders from Nallah Sindh Ganderbal.

In this regard, a case under FIR numbers 26, 27, 109, 10, 12 and 25 of 2023 IPC under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Lar, Police Station Ganderbal, Police Station Safapora and Police Station Kheerbawani respectively and the investigations have been started.

Moreover, in a joint action, Ganderbal Police along with Geology and Mining Department raided different locations in the district and seized four tippers and a tractor for illegal extraction of minor minerals from Nallah Sindh, the official said.

“Police have repeatedly issued strict warnings to those involved in the illegal extraction of minor minerals and again appeal to stop this illegal practice or face strict action under the law,” he said—(KNO)
