August 18: Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla. Huge quantity of contraband substances have been recovered from their possession.
In Kulgam, Police Station Qazigund received a specific information that one person namely Bashir Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Sultan Khanday resident of Nipora Mirbazar has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house.
On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Qazigund under the supervision of DySP PC Mirbazar raided the specific location. During search, officers were able to recover 355 Kgs of Poppy straw from his residential house. He has been arrested and shifted to PS where he remains in custody.
Similarly in Baramulla, officers from PP Palhallan at a checkpoint established near Kutta Morh Pattan arrested a drug peddler identified as Irfan Rasheed Lone son of Ab Rasheed Lone resident of Malpora Burn Pattan. On his personal search, officers recovered 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his possession.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
