Jammu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend Silver Jubilee, 25th anniversary, of the Kargil war in Ladakh on July 26, officials said here on Monday.
Top officials told that PM Modi will pay tribute to war heroes at the War Memorial and interact with war widows.
The grand celebration to mark the ‘Rajat Jyanti’ of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 war is scheduled to be conducted in Dras from July 24 to 26.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan, Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and Navy chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi are also expected to attend the Silver Jubilee function.
The officials said that Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brigadier BD Mishra will visit Dras on July 24 to review the arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit on July 26.
They said that after reaching Dras, PM Modi will participate in wreath-laying ceremony followed by the visit to Wall of Fame. “He would inspect the museum of Kargil War artefacts and will be briefed on the Kargil war by top Army commanders.”
They said that PM Modi is also scheduled to inaugurate Shinku La tunnel virtually and address the gathering before departing from the Kargil War Memorial.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is held every year at Dras War Memorial on July 26 to mark India’s victory over Pakistan at the Kargil heights after nearly three months of war in which around 500 Indian soldiers lost their lives.
