Baramulla : The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi Friday appreciated the role of a sarpanch amid COVID-19 pandemic from Nawraw area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district during a video-conferencing on the eve of Panchayat Raj Divas.
Sarpanch Mohammad Iqbal told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that he was the only sarpanch across Jammu and Kashmir nominated for direct video-conference with PM on the eve of Panchayat Raj Divas celebrated across India on 24th April every year.
During the video-conferencing with Iqbal from Baramulla, PM Modi listened to all the efforts put in place on ground level by the sarpanch to fight the deadly coronavirus.
He informed the PM about how all the concerned departments like, ICDS, PRIs and others were involved to enforce complete lockdown and to aware masses about the measures and preventions against the virus.
Iqbal also told PM Modi that almost 99 percent of their local population is free from coronavirus and they have made sure that all the directions from Prime Minister’s office are followed for the good of people and society at large.
The Prime Minister appreciated the role of sarpanch and commended him for his work amid this pandemic in order to contain its spread within his hamlet.
PM Modi also exchanged Ramadhan greetings for the whole hamlet and wished that the holy month will go well for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile Mohammad Iqbal told KNO that he was thankful to the Prime Minister for his kind words
