Srinagar: In the wake of the recent militant attacks in Jammu region, the senior Congress leader Dr Karan Singh has appealed to the Government of India to place ‘Jammu Division’ under the command of Nagrota Corps to tackle militancy in Jammu Division.
Dr Karan Singh in a statement expressed anguish over the surge in militancy in Jammu and hoped that militants responsible for the attacks will be tracked down.
He suggested to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to station Nagrota Corps in Jammu Division.
“For many years, the Jammu Division was under the Nagrota Corps whose headquarters are hardly thirty miles away from Jammu. Some years ago, for some obscure reason, the Jammu Division was removed from Nagrota and placed under Western Command in Chandigarh, over 200 miles away. I think that the old system should be retained to ensure better and integrated dominance of the area in a militancy environment,” Singh said. [KNT]
