SRINAGAR : Public Health Engineering (PHE) daily wagers held a protest demonstration today at press enclave here demanding the release of long pending salaries.

Scores of daily wagers under the banner of Kashmir PHE Joint Employees Association while carrying placards raised slogans seeking release of their long pending wages.

Chanting slogans, scores of the casual workers and daily wagers assembled in Partap Park to protest against the delay in their wages. Holding placards that read “release our pending monthly wages”, employees sought early redressal of the “grave concern”.

One of the protester said that their families are having tough times due to delay in their salaries. “Our families are on the verge of starvation. We don’t even have money to pay fee of our wards and they are being thrown out of the schools. We are facing immense hardships as we don’t have money to feed our families,” he said.

The workers have also threatened to paralyse the supply if their demands are not met. “All this while we have been given false assurances, nothing substantial is done to help us out of this. The higher authorities are responsible for not resolving the issues of the PHE daily wagers and others,” said a worker.

“We are facing financial problems due to which the studies of our children have been worst affected. We are unable to pay the fee of our children,” said.

“We are working in the department by leaps and wounds from the last couple of decades but we have not been paid not even a single penny from last one and a half year,” he said.

The protesters requested the Governor Satya Pal Malik to look into the matter. (PTK)
