Reiterates commitment to fight for dignity and honor of the people of Jammu & Kashmir
Several leaders detained for staging peaceful protest
Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a peaceful protest today against widespread illegal detention, the harassment of youngsters, the gag on the media and gross human rights violations in Kashmir.
Demanding the release of Kashmir is jailed in and outside J&K & political prisoners, including PDP chief and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, PDP leaders and activists staged a peaceful protest at Party Headquarters in Srinagar and were stopped and scores detained while trying to move towards city center.
“Several party leaders and activists gathered at the party headquarters in Srinagar today. The idea was to come together and stage a peaceful protest against continued illegal detentions of political leaders, elderly and youth of J&K who are languishing in various detention centers in and outside J&K. we also wanted to express anguish against harassment of our youth, media gag and gross human rights violations that have become a norm,” Party Spokesman Syed Suhail Bukhari said.
“As soon as we started the peaceful march, police contingent stopped us and detained many of our senior leaders and activists including Abdul Hameed Kosheen, Dr Harbaksh Singh, Abdul Rouf Bath, Arif Laigaroo, Mushtaq Ahmad and Umar Dar were detained and taken into custody,” he added.
Earlier the party leaders and activists from various areas converged at the party office and unanimously reiterated to fight for the honor, dignity and identity of the people of Jammu & Kashmir under the uncompromising leadership of party president Mehbooba Mufti.
Those who attended and addressed the gathering included Party’s Media Head Syed Suhail Bukhari, Abdul Hamid Kosheen, Dr Harbaksh Singh, Senior Leader Nazir Ahmad Khan, Abdul rouf Bath, Arif Laigaroo Abdul Gani Naseem, Haji Pervez, Mohammad Shafi Kundangar, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Abdul Salam Bhat, Manzoor Ahmad, Manzoor Trali, Taufeeq Shah, Farooq Ahmad, Abdul Qayoom Bath , Bashir Ahmad Beg, Dr Alii Muhammad, Abdul Hamid, Muhammad Sidiq, Mohsin Qayoom, Imtiyaz Reshi, Raja Waheed and others.
