Schemes listed under Jal Jeevan Mission, issue to get redressal very soon: Official

BANDIPORA: Inhabitants of Payeen Nowgam village in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday here have complained that they are being forced to consume contaminated drinking water and alleged Jal Shakti department for ‘failing’ to provide them potable drinking water,
The inhabitants of area assembled at Payeen Nowgam alleged Jal Shakti department (JJM).
Inhabitants of Nowgam blaming the authorities for failing to ensure portable drinking water supply in their area,
adding that “In order to bring the issue in the notice of the authorities, We have approached the Jal Shakti Department (JJM) several times but nothing was done to solve the scarcity of water in our area.”
They said that their area in the entire area is worst affected due to non- availability of adequate water supply.
Mohd Rafiq Dar Local resident, said that they approached the concerned officials many times but nothing has been done in this regard. “We are being forced to consume contaminated water, which has affected our health,” he said.
A local Hilal Ahmed Chakan ‘said” that ,”on one hand the government is making tall claims of providing proper facilities to people in winter and on the other hand the JJM department has failed to provide pure and portable drinking water to the people of Payeen Nowgamvillage .
“Our mothers are being forced to fetch drinking water from wells and streams because the water is polluted, which is seriously affecting the health of children and the elderly,” said Nasir Rasool, a social activist.
They appealed higher authorities and DC Bandipora to look into the matter and address their legitimate demand at an earliest.
Meanwhile, The JKNS contacted officials of Jal Shakti department over the issue they “said’ Schemes listed under Jal Jeevan Mission, this issue will get complete redressal only under JJM,”. The grievances of the people will be resolved soon as possible.
